The paintwork is extremely elaborate and well detailed, in particular: The figure's attire, the fringes of the parasol, the horsetail, the abstractly rendered landscape vanishing into clouds, the flame like border decoration and scale make this one of the best examples we have ever had. It was converted into a wine container in the 18th Century and we purposely left the lead tap connector as it is part of its history.

Rare, Bold Late 17th Century French Faience Bowl, Nevers, circa 1670

An historically significant pair of French, Nevers, faience handles from a large tree pot. Each mask is surmounted by a laurel hail and by two intertwined dolphin tails forming an arch. These have been saved from a damaged " pot-a-oranger" dating circa 1650‍. The sculpture depicts the warrior God "Guandi". Seated on a throne, clad in armour and loose fitting robe, decorated in aubergine, turquoise and yellow glaze.. The face and hands left unglazed because they would have been cold painted after the firing. Guandi is the Chinese god of war whose immense popularity with the common people rests on the firm belief that his control over evil spirits is so great that even actors who play his part in dramas share his power over demons.

Large Chinese pottery figure, Ming dynasty (1368-1644)

A very large and impressive early 18th century Japanese Arita Covered bowl. The bowl is decorated in underglaze blue and overglaze gold. Four white shaped panels separated by blue background. A significant piece, finely painted and of unusually large size. A similar example in the collection of Augustus the Strong in Dresden.
